Purpose and scope
These Terms of Use (the "Terms") govern your use of the RIDERS Service, which comprises the RIDERS mobile application (iOS and Android), the riders.fr website and the associated web app (together, the "Service").
The Service is published by NOVALPI SAS, a French simplified joint-stock company with a share capital of €2,000, registered with the Thonon-les-Bains Trade and Companies Register under number 107 806 358, with its registered office at 888 route de la Caille, 74350 Allonzier-la-Caille, France. Full publisher details are set out in the legal notice.
The Service lets you plan motorcycle routes, follow them with turn-by-turn navigation, record riding sessions, organise group rides and take part in clubs. It is built on content published by its users.
Acceptance of these Terms
Creating an account requires express acceptance of these Terms: during sign-up you must tick a dedicated checkbox before your account is created. Without that acceptance, sign-up cannot be completed.
By accessing riders.fr without creating an account, you acknowledge that you have read and accepted these Terms. If you do not agree, you must stop using the Service.
Minimum age and capacity
Access to the Service is reserved for individuals aged 16 years or older. By creating an account, you declare that you are 16 or older.
Between the ages of 16 and 18, the Service must be used under the responsibility of, and with the prior agreement of, a holder of parental responsibility, who acknowledges being bound by these Terms. This rule applies whichever profile is selected, including "passenger" mode.
A holder of parental responsibility may request at any time the deletion of the account of a minor in their care, by writing to contact@riders.fr. Riders may restrict, suspend or delete any account whose holder manifestly does not meet the age requirement.
Access to the Service
Core features of the Service are available free of charge, excluding internet connection costs charged by your provider. Certain features require a paid subscription, the terms of which are presented at the time of purchase.
Riders may suspend, restrict or stop all or part of the Service, in particular for maintenance, updates or product changes.
Account, waitlist and communications
You agree to provide accurate information when creating your account and to keep it up to date. You are responsible for keeping your credentials confidential and for any activity carried out from your account.
Joining the waitlist does not guarantee immediate product access. Beta invitations may be released progressively based on product and operational criteria.
In the event of inaccurate, inappropriate or fraudulent data, Riders may refuse or cancel a registration.
You may delete your account at any time from the application settings. Deletion takes effect after a 30-day grace period during which you can cancel it by signing back in; after that period, your personal data is purged as described in the privacy policy.
User-generated content
The Service lets you publish content (the "Content"): routes and their descriptions, group rides, clubs and their descriptions, chat messages, comments, photographs, username and profile picture, and any information you choose to make visible to other users.
You retain ownership of your Content. By publishing it, you grant Riders a non-exclusive, royalty-free, worldwide licence to host, reproduce, display and technically adapt that Content, for the sole duration necessary to distribute it on the Service and within the limits of the visibility you selected. This licence ends when you delete the Content, subject to backup copies and to Content derived by other users.
You are solely responsible for the Content you publish. You warrant that you hold the rights required to publish it and that it does not infringe any third-party right, in particular intellectual property rights, image rights and the right to privacy.
In respect of Content, Riders acts as a hosting provider within the meaning of Article 6 of French Law No. 2004-575 of 21 June 2004 on confidence in the digital economy and of Article 6 of Regulation (EU) 2022/2065. Riders does not carry out general monitoring of published Content, but acts as soon as manifestly unlawful Content, or Content contrary to these Terms, is reported to it or otherwise comes to its knowledge.
Content rules and zero tolerance
The following Content is prohibited on the Service, without this list being exhaustive:
- unlawful content under French or European Union law, in particular terrorist content and child sexual abuse material;
- hateful or discriminatory content: insults, defamation, incitement to hatred, violence or discrimination on the grounds of origin, ethnicity, nationality, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, religion or beliefs;
- content amounting to harassment, bullying, threats or humiliation, including in repeated or coordinated form;
- sexual or pornographic content, as well as any sexual nudity;
- violent content or content glorifying violence, terrorism, crimes against humanity or suicide;
- content encouraging reckless behaviour: incitement to excessive speed, dangerous riding, street racing, riding under the influence of alcohol or drugs, or breaking road traffic rules;
- content infringing third-party intellectual property rights: counterfeiting, unauthorised reproduction of photographs, route traces, text or trademarks;
- content disclosing third parties' personal data without their consent: name, address, phone number, licence plate, location or identifying photograph;
- spam, unsolicited advertising, fraud, phishing, or manipulation of the Service's interactions;
- content amounting to impersonation or false identity, in particular passing yourself off as another user, as Riders or as an organisation.
You are also prohibited from using the Service to circumvent a moderation measure, in particular by creating a new account after a suspension or termination.
Road safety
Riders is a tool for planning and sharing motorcycle rides. It in no way relieves you of your obligation to comply with road traffic rules, for which you remain solely responsible. You remain in control of your speed, your line and your riding decisions at all times, whatever the Service indicates.
The Service is designed never to reward riding intensity. No ranking, badge or distinction is based on speed, lean angle, distance covered per day or raw riding frequency. Telemetry recorded during a session, including maximum lean angle, remains a private statistic and is never ranked.
Accordingly, any Content glorifying excessive speed or dangerous riding is prohibited and will be removed: speed records, top-speed comparisons, videos or photographs of manifestly dangerous riding, riding challenges, incitement to street racing. This rule applies to route and group ride descriptions as well as to messages, comments and photographs.
Handling a phone while riding is prohibited by road traffic rules. Any configuration of the Service must be carried out while stationary.
Reporting content or a user
A reporting mechanism is available to you inside the application, right next to the Content concerned. It is accessible to any signed-in user, with no prior steps required.
| Content | How to report |
|---|---|
| Route | Report button at the bottom of the route page |
| Group ride | Report button at the bottom of the group ride page |
| Club | Report button in the action bar of the club page |
| Chat message | Long-press the message, then "Report message" |
| User profile | The "⋮" menu at the top of the profile, then "Report this profile" |
Reporting asks you to pick a reason — Spam, Inappropriate content, Harassment, Misinformation or Other — and to add, if you wish, a free-text description explaining your request. We encourage you to be as specific as possible, so that we can assess whether the reported Content is unlawful.
You may also report Content by email to contact@riders.fr or through the contact form, indicating the exact location of the Content concerned and the reasons why you consider it unlawful or contrary to these Terms. This route is open to anyone, including people without a Riders account.
Reporting in bad faith Content that breaches neither the law nor these Terms is itself a breach of these Terms and may give rise to a moderation measure.
Blocking a user
Independently of any report, you may block another user at any time. Blocking is available by long-pressing one of their messages, or from the "⋮" menu at the top of their profile.
Once a user is blocked, you no longer see their messages in group ride and club chats, their comments, their posts in activity feeds, their reactions, or their routes and group rides in discovery lists.
Blocking is silent: the blocked person is not notified. It is reversible at any time from Settings › Blocked users, which lists the people you have blocked.
Blocking is an individual measure that only affects your own experience: it does not remove the Content from the Service for other users, and it is not a report. If Content or behaviour appears objectionable to you, report it as well, so that Riders can become aware of it and act.
Moderation, sanctions and redress
Riders applies moderation measures proportionate to the size of the Service: an automated filter applied at the time of publication, the handling of reports by its team, the removal of Content contrary to these Terms, and moderation tools granted to club owners, who may remove a post from their feed and exclude a member.
The automated filter compares the title, description or comment you submit against a list of prohibited terms maintained by the team (severe racist, homophobic or sexist slurs, incitement to violence). Where one of them appears, publication is refused and you are told immediately, so that you can amend your text. This filter operates only at the time of publication: it removes no Content already published and, on its own, triggers no measure against your account.
Any other moderation measure — removal of published Content, restriction of its visibility, a warning, suspension or deletion of the account — is subject to human review: none of these measures is taken solely on the basis of automated processing.
In the event of a breach of these Terms, and depending on the seriousness and repetition of the breach, Riders may take one or more of the following measures:
- removal of the Content or restriction of its visibility;
- a warning issued to the author of the Content;
- temporary suspension of all or part of the access to the Service;
- permanent termination of the account, in the event of a serious or repeated breach, in particular where unlawful content, harassment or abusive behaviour towards other users is involved.
These measures may be taken without notice where the seriousness of the breach warrants it, in particular where Content is manifestly unlawful.
Intellectual property
Elements of the Service other than user Content (text, visual assets, logos, trademarks, structure, code, design) are protected by intellectual property laws. Any reproduction, representation, adaptation, extraction or reuse, in whole or in part, is prohibited without prior written authorisation.
The publisher's registered trademarks are listed in the legal notice.
If you believe that Content published on the Service infringes your intellectual property rights, you may report it as described in section 9.
Permitted use and prohibited conduct
Independently of the rules applicable to Content (section 7), you agree not to:
- disrupt the operation or the security of the Service;
- access the Service by unauthorised automated means, or engage in abusive scraping;
- attempt to access data or accounts that do not belong to you;
- use the Service for commercial purposes without prior written agreement;
- infringe third-party rights or damage the Riders brand reputation.
Liability limitation
The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis. To the extent permitted by applicable law, Riders disclaims liability for indirect damages, business loss, data loss, or service interruption linked to use of the Service.
Routes, itineraries, travel times and points of interest offered by the Service are provided for information only and may contain inaccuracies or fail to reflect the actual state of the road network. They do not relieve you of your obligation to comply with road traffic rules, road signs and traffic conditions.
Group rides organised through the Service are meet-ups between users. Riders is neither their organiser, nor their supervisor, nor their insurer, and exercises no control over how they unfold. Each participant takes part under their own responsibility.
As a hosting provider of Content, Riders cannot be held liable for Content published by a user where it was unaware of that Content or where it acted promptly to remove it once informed.
Personal data
Personal data processing is described in our privacy policy.
Third-party services
The Service may contain links to third-party services. Riders does not control such services and is not responsible for their content, availability or policies.
Changes to these terms
Riders may update these Terms at any time. The current version is the one published on this page. Any substantial change is brought to the attention of account holders by an appropriate means and within a reasonable period before it takes effect.
Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by French law. Subject to mandatory legal rules, disputes fall under the competent French courts.
In accordance with Articles L.611-1 et seq. of the French Consumer Code, consumers may use a consumer ombudsman free of charge in the event of a dispute. The contact details of the NOVALPI SAS ombudsman are published in the legal notice once appointed.
